Alfredo Frasca’s Lane Sangiovese Winemaking
The Alfredo Frasca’s Lane Sangiovese from Nugan Estate is a beautiful wine with a deep history. Managing Director, Matthew Nugan, made this wine as a tribute to his grandfather, the founder of Nugan Estate, Alfredo Nugan. Alfredo continues to inspire the team and today, his legacy sees the Nugan family established as one of Australia’s most successful agricultural enterprises. This wine is a tribute to his vision and the passion he continues to instil in us, his family, to pursue his ideals of outstanding quality and service.
We source the grapes for the Sangiovese from Victoria’s cool climate King Valley. Once the winemaking team harvest, we chill and destem the fruit in small open fermenters. It is here that we leave the fruit for cold masceration. We then yeast the parcels and hand plunge the fruit. This is all done in the traditional style to avoid the extraction of bitter tannins. Afterwards, we divide the parcels between stainless steel vats and seasoned French and American oak for maturation ahead of final blending and bottling.
Alfredo Frasca’s Lane Sangiovese Winemaker’s Comments
This wine is dense garnet in appearance with a youthful crimson hue. It has vibrant aromas of fresh black cherry, blood plum and also dark chocolate. This is followed by a rich palate of spiced plum, sour cherries, dried herbs, bright acidity, followed by plush tannins.
WINE & FOOD MATCH
This wine is a wonderful match with a variety of foods, from pasta to meat dishes as well as aged cheeses. But if you really want to appreciate this wine, do as the Romans do, and partner it with Italian foods. Chief Winemaker, Daren Owers, loves this wine with hearty dishes such as Osso Buco or Lasagne.
