The Parkville Reserve Merlot Winemaking:
The Parkville Reserve Merlot is part of the export range of wines from Nugan Estate. 2014 was a particularly good vintage in the Riverina, New South Wales. The 2014 vintage wines are in balance, with excellent colour and fruit concentration. The winemaking team, under the guidance of Nugan Estate’s Chief Winemaker, Daren Owers, harvest the fruit for this Merlot at night. They do this to maintain optimum ripeness, as well as to preserve delicate fruit flavours. After they pick the grapes, they will then crush, yeast and pump over the fruit in the traditional style. They will employ these techniques to avoid the extraction of bitter tannins. The wine will then ferment and select parcels will mature with French oak treatment.
The Parkville Reserve Merlot Winemaker’s Comments:
This wine is deep crimson with youthful purple hues. It is a medium bodied wine, that showcases the soft, smooth flavours of Merlot. It has lifted aromas of ripe plum and cherry entwined with toasty oak. On the palate, this wine has concentrated ripe berry flavours layered with earth and spice and subtle well-integrated oak.
