The Cookoothama mixed dozen from Nugan Estate features many award-winning wines. Our Chief Winemaker, Daren Owers, pours his heart and soul into every wine. Cookoothama, “cook-a-tharma”, is the name of the vineyard on the banks of the Murrumbidgee River. It is the original name of this property before the vineyards were planted. It is the Aboriginal word meaning ‘fertile land’. As a result, the hands which appear on the labels of the Cookoothama range pay tribute to the the Aboriginal people. We consider these people the pioneers who live and cultivate the land along the banks of the Murrumbidgee River.
The Cookoothama mixed dozen from Nugan Estate contains a selection of wines from our third generation winery. You will find three Chardonnays in this pack. This wine is also great with food, it is a very versatile wine which can accompany a broad range of seafood and poultry dishes. This wine has lifted aromas of citrus, nectarine and peach mixed with spice. These tones are complimented with rich full flavoured stone fruit which give the wine structure and finesse. The pack also contains two of the Cookoothama King Valley Sauvignon Blanc Semillon, with vibrant aromas of lemongrass and lime over a fresh and lively tropical fruit salad.
Along with three of the Cookoothama Cabernet Merlot, which has a deep crimson and youthful purple hue. This wine is lively with aromas of ripe berry, allspice as well as herbs and dark chocolate. The Cookoothama Shiraz is inky red in appearance and lends itself to a variety of red meat dishes. With brooding aromas of blood plum and black cherry compote, entwined with earth, mocha and hints of spiced oak. As a result of these aromas, the spicey overtones work well with Thai beef salad, as well as complimenting the flavours of roast lamb and tender braised lamb shanks.
The Cookoothama Botrytis Semillon is brilliant straw with a golden hue. It has aromas of dried apricot and fig with marmalade and orange peel. To conclude, this wine is the perfect partner to any cheese platter with dried fruits.
